In France’s final match of the group stage against Portugal, Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez got injured and was subbed out at half-time. At the time, it wasn’t sure why Hernandez was subbed off for Lucas Digne, who also got injured just five minutes after he started playing, but now, Abendzeitung suggests that Hernandez suffered a knee injury.
It’s not quite sure for how long Hernandez will be sidelined, but he is a definite doubt for France’s round of 16 matches against Switzerland.
France’s manager, Didier Deschamps said the substitution was mostly precautionary and that he “didn’t want to take any risks.” Hernandez will undergo further tests, and we’ll see the severity of the injury.
France will have to mix things up a bit on the left-back position after Hernandez and Digne will probably miss the next match. Deschamps also added that Digne is in doubt for the rest of the EUROs. Hopefully, this won’t make him rush Hernandez back on the pitch prematurely.
