Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer knew Hungary would not be a slouch and the 35-year-old goalkeeper was among the many who were fretting about Germany’s chances to move on at the European Championships.
In the end, Die Mannschaft secured a draw and was able to advance to the knockout stage. While it was not exactly what Neuer envisioned, the veteran was extremely happy to have escaped the group stage.
“We are just relieved that we made it. Of course, it was a nail-biter. Against a team like that, it’s naturally difficult when you’re behind,” said Neuer (as captured by Tz). “They closed everything down. Peter Gulacsi also made a good save. It was a completely different game than against the Portuguese or the French.”
Now, Germany will have to travel to Wenbley Stadium to square off with a powerful English side. Neuer is already looking forward to the match.
“Wembley suits us,” said Neuer.
