It has been speculated that former Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez would head back to Athletic Bilbao to continue his career, but the 32-year-old has instead it looks like he has signed with Qatar SC.
While no details were given on the rational for Martinez’s decision, it can be assumed that financial package in Qatar was far more lucrative than he would have gotten with Bilbao.
Martinez produced this tweet (in English) to announce where he will be spending the next stage of his career:
Hasta pronto! @javi8martinez ⏰ pic.twitter.com/AesqK69kjT

Martinez’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in a few days and the Spaniard had a long and storied tenure in Germany that included two trebles.
Martinez, of course, joined Bayern Munich in 2012 from Athletic Bilbao and proceeded to become an integral part to the squad during his tenure. In all, Martinez won nine German championships , five DFB-Pokal titles, and two Champions League crowns.
Martinez’s role had diminished in recent years, but he clearly still has enough to offer a club as a starter in a lower level league or even as a bench players in one of Europe’s top associations.
