Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller was thrilled to see Germany outlast Portugal 4-2 at the Euro 2020 tournament.
“We had many good aspects. But we also had a few things that we need to improve significantly,” Müller said (as captured by Tz). “In terms of play and going forward, we saw a lot of good things. Now we got into the tournament well and now we have the three points that we really needed, now we have the everything in our own hands. We must not get carried away now.”
Müller knows that part of “not getting carried away is respecting Germany’s next opponent: Hungary.
“Hungary is quite tough, they can defend very well and also show passion. Therefore, we must not become arrogant,” Müller said. “But we must also have a little faith in our quality. You can see a little euphoria — but we have to remain objective.”
Lastly, Müller commented on Man of the Match Robin Gosens.
“He did what we asked him to do. He did it well, but only for 60 minutes (laughs). He plays in Italy after all,” Müller said laughing. “We used him exactly where he can bring his weapons into play — he did that well.”
