Former Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches was called on as a substitute during Germany’s 4-2 win over Portugal and nearly helped the Portuguese inch closer to Die Mannschaft in the second half.

Sanches provided a spark for Portugal, but ultimately could not help stabilize the midfield enough to take that advantage away from Toni Kroos and Germany. In frustration, Sanches also showed a little bit of the attitude he became renowned for with Bayern Munich when he kicked the ball against the advertising boards late in the match.

Overall, it was a solid showing for the Lille midfielder, who was not completely distraught over his team’s defeat.

“We had good chances, but we lost. That’s a shame. We’ll play France on Wednesday,” Sanches said after the game (as captured by Tz). “We knew that the group would be difficult. But we have it in our own hands.”

It will be interesting to see if Sanches has done enough to earn himself a spot in the starting XI against France.
