Bavarian Podcast Works: Germany beats Portugal, 2-4, holds fate in their own hands against Hungary in Euro 2020

It wasn’t always easy and sometimes it was downright messy but Germany, via two own goals, Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens, won a vital tie in Euro 2020 against Portugal.

A lot of us cried “doom and gloom”; a lot of us thought it was over for Germany after a deflating performance against France in their Euro 2020 opener. Yet, today, the attack was inspired, the play was joyful, the defense was shaky and Germany won. It wasn’t a last second free kick from Toni Kroos; it wasn’t a lucky goal; they deserved the victory.

With Hungary taking a point against France today, every team is alive going into the final matchday; all Germany has to do (no easy task) is to beat Hungary on the final day and they will qualify; in fact, if Portugal beats France on the final day and Germany beats Hungary, Germany will finish top.

Hungary was supposed to be out of it all as was Germany; but both are alive and kicking ahead of the last day of this group on Wednesday, 06/23. The deciders promise to be breathtaking; this game for me, was the best game of this tournament.
