Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk recently discussed the recent rumor linking Bayern Munich to Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui and indicated that despite sound rationale with the player being a positional fit, the Bavarians have doubt over Mazraoui’s form at Ajax.
According to Falk, Bayern Munich feels as if Mazraoui has not progressed adequately with his development with Ajax and frankly was not very good last season in the Eredivisie:
Bayern are aware of Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui & the player fits the profile the club is looking for. However there are doubts over Mazraoui as his development has stagnated and he hasn't played a good last season. Move unlikely [ Bayern-Insider, @cfbayern, @altobelli13] pic.twitter.com/Odc1IxgNth

There are also rumors circulating that Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is seeking a player who can float between right-wing and right wing-back. If true, this would seem to indicate that Nagelsmann could be planning a flexible set-up with no firm commitment to a set formation.
Regardless, Mazraoui does not seem like he would be a fit at this stage of his career. With Benjamin Pavard entrenched as the starter at right-back and Niklas Süle also capable of floating outside to right-back in a back four-based formation, Nagelsmann is clearly looking for a different type of player to hand this role.
It is likely that Bouna Sarr does not factor into Nagelsmann’s plans at all after a lousy 2020/2021 season.
