According to Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal), new Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann wanted to bring Marc Roca to Leipzig before the Spaniard’s move to Bavaria last summer. This should come as great news for the 24 year-old midfielder who has largely been overlooked by former coach Hansi Flick.
Due to injuries and a high game load, the packed “COVID season” granted Flick plenty of opportunities to give minutes to the Spaniard and test him. However, Roca hardly saw game-time and was warming the bench throughout most of the season.
❗️News @marcroca21: Nagelsmann wanted to sign him for Leipzig last summer. He has got a very positiv opinion about the Spaniard and is likely to give him more chances than Flick. For JN he is a typical number 6. More backgrounds in #MeineBayernWoche @SPORT1

Nagelsmann’s long-term interest — coupled with Marc Roca’s recent decision to skip the Tokyo Olympics with Spain in order to get a full preseason under the new boss — should strongly boost the midfielder’s involvement in the new coach’s plans.
With the team in dire need of a midfielder who can adequately backup Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, this might as well be Roca’s ticket to greater importance in the Bayern Munich roster.
