According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is expecting to reach a deal on a contract extension with midfielder Leon Goretzka before this summer’s European Championships.
Goretzka, who has established himself as one of the game’s top midfielders, is expected to be a key figure as the club slowly begins its transition in leadership from the old guard to the next generation over the course of the next two-to-three seasons:

Goretzka’s current contract expires in 2022, so this summer is the key stage for the player and club to get a deal done. Bayern Munich will lose David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, and Javi Martinez after this season on free transfers, which is something the club would ultimately like to avoid at all costs. In a previous report, Goretzka’s new deal is expected to be a four-year extension.
This should be the first of quite a few dominoes to fall, however. If Goretzka’s deal is close to being completed, Bayern Munich can then start to focus on other players like Niklas Süle (2022), Joshua Kimmich (2023), Serge Gnabry (2023) and Kingsley Coman (2023).
