Bouna Sarr and Marc Roca to be evaluated in coming weeks at Bayern Munich

Earlier today we saw the latest news regarding the upcoming contract discussions that will occur between Bayern Munich and several players on the roster.

For newer players like Bouna Sarr and Marc Roca, however, the Bavarians will be looking closely to see if the club should retain them or move on. For both Sarr and Roca, the 2020/2021 season has been disappointing as both have failed to impress current manager Hansi Flick.

Julian Nagelsmann will take over for Flick in July, but the Bayern Munich brass could be well on their way to a decision on both Sarr and Roca by then, per kicker (as captured by Abendzeitung):

According to a report by “kicker”, (Roca and Sarr) are being scrutinized by those in charge. According to this report, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, chairman of the committee in 2022, will carry out an in-depth squad analysis after the end of the season, in which Roca and Sarr will also be examined more closely.

Sarr and Roca both were not given much of an opportunity under Flick, but neither impressed in his own respective playing time. Flick has high standards and expectations for each position and it has been widely-assumed that each player was deficient in one way or another in Flick’s eyes:

Whether FC Bayern will really let the two go, however, seems open. In Jérôme Boateng and David Alaba, two fixed departures have already been made, and the contracts of Javi Martínez, Douglas Costa and Tiago Dantas are running out and will most likely not be extended. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, whose contract also expires at the end of June, has, however, probably recommended himself to continue on.

Both Sarr and Roca are considered depth players at this stage and it has been rumored that Bayern Munich is actively in the market for additional depth solutions at right-back and in the central midfield.

It has already been reported that Sarr wants to leave, while Roca wants to stay and prove himself. Whatever happens, the players should know definitively about their respective futures shortly.
