Bayern Munich youth prospect Lasse Günther has left the club for fellow Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. The 18 year old has signed a four year contract with the option of a one-year extension.
“It really impressed me how the FC Augsburg guys fought for me,” Günther said. “We have talked plenty about the path I can take here with FCA and I am already looking forward to meeting the team and running out in front of the fans at the WWK-Arena for the first time.”
Günther made five appearances for Bayern II this season in the 3.Liga. Last season, after with the club’s U-19 team, Günther scored five goals in fourteen appearances in the league while scoring three goals in five appearances in the UEFA Youth League.
We have faith that he can make the immediate step into our Bundesliga team and continue his development next season,” Augsburg Sporting Director Stefan Reuter said. “We held numerous discussions with Lasse, his family and his advisors in which we showed them the FC Augsburg way. Together with them, we are sure that the move to Augsburg will be the ideal next step in his career.”
Augsburg may have been the club to snag Günther’s signature, but they weren’t the only ones interested. According to Bild, another Bundesliga club (Bayer Leverkusen) and two English clubs (Everton and Liverpool) had expressed interest in the young winger.
