Since the end of the 2020/21 season, reports had been circulating that Miroslav Klose was getting close to taking his first head coaching job. Not only that, but Klose was reportedly going to take fellow Bayern Munich assistant Hermann Gerland with him to Fortuna Düsseldorf. That move, however, appears to be off, and Düsseldorf are already in final talks with their next coach.
Christian Preußer, currently managing Freiburg II in the Regionalliga Südwest, will be the next manager in Düsseldorf, according to Rheinische Post and Bild. Preußer has led Freiburg’s reserves to first place in their Regionalliga and could very well secure promotion into the 3.Liga after this weekend’s match. They currently lead SV Elversberg by eight points with three matches remaining.
This would certainly be a temporary blow to Klose’s well-planned out, rapid ascent to a first team head coach. There is no doubt that a job will be coming his way, however, as it seems nearly every team in Germany decided to change coaches this summer.
