Could Bayern Munich be planning a preseason tune-up?

According to a report from Marca (as captured by SempreInter.com), Bayern Munich will be among four teams competing in a special preseason tournament this summer.

The Bavarians will join, Real Madrid and Inter Milan in a “triangular competition” to help each squad prepare for the 2021/2022 campaign:

As per Marca (via FcInterNews.it), Real Madrid will not travel to Asia or the United States for their pre-season preparations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The La Liga giants are instead planning a ‘triangular competition’ with Inter and Bayern Munich, where each team will host one match in their home city.

There are no official dates for the tournament yet, but it would give the Nerazzurri a chance to test themselves against high-profile opposition before starting their Serie A title defence.

A preseason tune-up against good competition like Real Madrid and Inter Milan could be a very good idea for Bayern Munich, but it could also wind up like the 2018 International Champions Cup tour, which featured almost none of Bayern Munich’s regulars as the players were resting after the World Cup.

With the European Championships this summer being piggybacked after a year-and-a-half of condensed scheduling for clubs, downtime for players will need to be a focal point for squad planning entering the season.
