Julian Nagelsmann knows that being a Bavarian will not give him any special privileges in his new position at Bayern Munich. According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Nagelsmann stated, “I know that FC Bayern are aware I’m from the region. But I’m not going to enjoy any bonuses due to my origin. Even as a native Bavarian, I have to be successful in Munich in order to stay.”
Nagelsmann went on to say that he knows what the expectations are now as the new Bayern coach: “The expectations at Bayern are always there. You should win the league, win the Pokal, and go far in the Champions League. I’m going to face this challenge.” When asked what he was going to face this challenge and continue to improve Bayern as a whole, the 33-year old coach replied, “It’s about continuing with the success of the past decade. One of my main tasks will be to create a balance between defensive stability and this unbelievably good attack. I want us to be flexible so our opponents can’t read us.”

Having exceeded expectations at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann has garnered praises of pundits from all over the world. When asked about how it was to be named alongside the game’s best coaches — such as Pep, Klopp, Tuchel — he said, “For me it’s an honor to be mentioned with these world class colleagues. I haven’t won titles yet and am joining my first very big club. First I have to prove that I’m rightfully at such a big club.”
Even after the praise that he has received throughout his career, Nagelsmann is staying humble and knows that nothing is given. “I have a certain life plan. I’m not assuming that I will continue to do this job for 20 or 30 more years. I’m aware that I have an absolute dream job and I’m thankful for this privilege every day,” said Nagelsmann. “For now I’m very much looking forward to working at FC Bayern. I will take on this job with full energy. After all, I’ve signed a five-year contract.”
