Report: Christian Früchtl may leave Bayern Munich for Austria this summer

The young goalkeeper is looking for playing time.

The list of goalkeepers stuck behind Manuel Neuer in the pecking order at Bayern Munich is very young and very talented, but they all have the exact same problem: they need to be playing games.

A new report from Sky (reported by TZ), states that Früchtl is now exploring his options this summer, including a possible move to the Austrian Bundesliga. They reported that at least one team there was interested in signing him; however, they do not name the club.

Früchtl has yet to play a single second for FC Nürnberg this season on loan with the 2.Bundesliga side, and there’s only one game remaining in the season. It’s certainly been a disappointing season for him, and it has to be considered a “lost season” for him. He’s only 21 years old, so there’s still time.

Sitting on the bench behind one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time is fine for one or two seasons, but every single young player wants to play and prove their worth. It doesn’t matter if it’s Früchtl, Alexander Nübel, or Ron-Thorben Hoffmann. They want to play.

While Bayern don’t need to make a final decision on Nübel this summer, former Bayern manager Niko Kovac and AS Monaco have already expressed an interest in bringing him in on a two-year loan. His contract is with the Bavarians through 2025.

However, the club will have to make a final decision on both Früchtl and Hoffmann this summer since both have contracts that expire in the summer of 2022. My expectations are that the club will sell both players this summer.
