RB Leipzig center-back Dayot Upamecano will move to Bayern Munich after this season and sat down with Sportbuzzer to detail his thought process on making the move to Bavaria rather than some other destinations
“I was sure relatively quickly that I wanted to stay in Germany and in the Bundesliga,” Upamecano said. “I like it here, the level of the games, the fans, the stadiums.”
As for how he felt when it was perennial power Bayern Munich making an inquiry on him, Upamecano knew it was a call that he had to take.
“When FC Bayern gets in touch, you are really proud,” Upamecano said. “It doesn’t get much higher, especially when you’ve played in Leipzig before.”
Upamecano will not be the only member of Die Roten Bullen heading to Bavaria, though. Manager Julian Nagelsmann will also make the trek to take over for Hansi Flick after this season.
Still, Upamecano insisted that his focus — and Nagelsmann’s as well — is only on RB Leipzig until July.
“He’s a great trainer. We’re not thinking about the next season now, we’re all thinking about this one,” said Upamecano. “And we want to win the cup against Dortmund and top our best performance from the 2016/2017 season.”
