According to a report by AZ, Bayern Munich may rethink their stance on signing Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool. The 30-year-old Dutchman was offered to the Bavarians some time back, but rejected due to his wage demands. However, with the club lacking funds this summer and Wijnaldum available on a free, things may yet change on that front.
Per the report, Julian Nagelsmann sees him as one of his "dream players", which is a little hard to believe. Even if the midfielder was a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp's side, he would still be little more than a depth midfielder at Bayern these days.
That doesn’t mean his services wouldn't make a difference, though. Bayern desperately need midfield depth for the upcoming season, and Wijnaldum would be able to provide it. As an experienced campaigner and available on a free transfer, it's doubtful whether there are any better options for Bayern in the transfer market.
But does the player himself see it the same way? Reports earlier in the year indicated that Wijnaldum was looking to follow Ronald Koeman to Barcelona and link up with his former national team coach. Would he prefer a move to Munich instead? This is all still speculation for now, so it's hard to tell. We'll keep updating the story as it develops.
