Now that Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich has won the title, much of the focus on the German’s has been as to whether Robert Lewandowski will reach Gerd Muller’s unbelievable 40 Bundesliga goal record. Now we have confirmation: Today, in Bayern’s match vs Freiburg, the Pole tied this illustrious record! He scored a penalty in the 26th minute to equal it.
The fact that Lewandowski has been able to reach this unbreakable record is astounding and a true reflection on how he’s been the best player in the world these past few seasons. The Bayern striker has been utterly unreal in his goal scoring exploits for years, but has seemed to even pick it up these past two seasons.
The most striking thing about this season, is that Lewandowski has even been more involved than ever in Bayern’s general play, constantly located in midfield and on the wings. Furthermore, Lewandowski has reached the record despite spending multiple games out with injury. There is no doubt Lewandowski would already have the record all to himself if he was fit during these games.
