After yesterday’s report that AS Monaco are looking to sign Jerome Boateng this summer, Bild have chimed in saying that the Bayern Munich defender is also looking at Tottenham Hotspur or MLS as future destinations. The Bavarians have already confirmed that he will be leaving as a free agent this summer, despite a resurgence in form.
While it’s been reported that Niko Kovac is looking for an experienced defender like Boateng to help lead Monaco’s inexperienced backline, the player himself never had the best of relationships with his former coach. However, Monaco have a decent chance of playing in the Champions League next summer, which is something Boateng would still want to do at his age.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are a mess, and MLS teams can’t exactly compete in Europe (for obvious reasons). The salary offers should be good though, which could weigh on Boa at this stage of his career. This will likely be the last transfer of his career before he retires — he’ll want to make it a good one.
From a neutral perspective, Monaco seems like the way to go. The allure of a good salary and a Champions League spot should be able to convince Boateng. However, nothing’s ever set in stone, so we’ll have to wait and see where he ends up.
