During a recent appearance on the Bayern Munich club podcast (as captured by Sport1), FC Bayern II midfielder Maximilian Welzmüller said that he and Joshua Kimmich often hit the court to play tennis.
“It was a professional acquaintance over tennis and padel,” Welzmüller said. “A small friendship has developed from that.”
The two players often text each other after football matches and sometimes run each other about tennis.

“He plays tennis the same way he plays soccer,” Welzmüller said about Kimmich. “With very, very much passion, very dogged, very ambitious, runs to the very last meter.”
The duo also plays “padel” together, which Sport1 said was a mixture of tennis and squash.
Welzmüller, though was happy to take down Kimmich in the twosome’s last padel match, which seems to have left the “Mentality Monster” smarting a bit.
“In the meantime, the tide has really turned. Our last padel match was a crushing victory for me. He’s still disappointed there,” Welzmüller joked.
