Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich made the rare decision to negotiate a new contract on his own by breaking ties with his old agency.
Kimmich’s ex-agent, Ulrich Ferber, recently sat down with Goal and SPOX for an extensive interview where he indicated that Kimmich is capable of negotiating for himself, but is worried things could get emotional.
“If you see Joshua on the pitch, you know that he wants to make and is making decisions. Due to the completely transparent work of the last few years, Joshua was informed at all times, always made this last decision and is quite able to defend his position clearly,” said Ferber, who founded the fair-sport GmbH agency. “However, our experience has shown that personal ‘negotiating’ is always accompanied by emotions and struggles, which we like to spare our players so that they can keep a clear head on the pitch. Together with us, Jo made it from U-14 talent to Champions League winner and top international player. We are proud to be part of this extraordinary career.”
However, those negotiations shake out, Ferber always knew Kimmich was a special talent.
“Absolutely. Many coaches saw (Kimmich’s) potential,” Ferber said. “(Ralf) Rangnick was certainly his biggest fan and sponsor back then in Leipzig. (Pep) Guardiola later saw in Joshua an exceptional player and future leader.”
