Former Bayern Munich midfielder, Julian Green, has signed a two-year extension with 2. Bundesliga side, SpVgg Greuther Fürth until Summer 2022. The (only) 25-year-old American has made 23 appearances this season out of a possible 27. Fürth’s sporting director, Rachid Azzouzi, had this to say about the decision to extend Green’s contract: “Julian has developed into an absolute cornerstone in our team. He is very important to the structure of our team, not only on the field, but also off of it. This is why it was no question for us to take the option [to extend].”

Green has scored seven goals and recorded two assists this season, as Greuther Fürth sits currently in third place of the 2. Bundesliga table. They are tied on points with Hamburger SV for second place and automatic promotion. With seven matches to go, Green and company have put themselves in good position to qualify for promotion into next year’s Bundesliga season. If this were the case, Green could face his old team in a Bavarian Derby of sorts.
