BPW Postgame Show: Bayern Munich lose 3-2 in snowy battle to Paris Saint-Germain

New, comments

It was a close game, with Bayern as the better team for most of it, but Die Roten face a big hill next week in Paris

I have to admit, I’m pretty pessimistic going into next week’s game after these results. Yes, Bayern Munich were the better team from the 30’ onwards. But, I don’t know if this team can find its form between now and then.

A lot of problems in this game can be placed on the defense - who’s to say those problems (which have always been there) will be fixed by next Tuesday? Bayern beat PSG in shots 31-6, but only 12 were on target. Leon Goretzka left the field injured - is he going to be back in time? Will Marco Verratti be back in time for PSG?

A lot of things are in the air and it doesn’t seem likely that Bayern will be getting any reinforcements before Tuesday. For the optimists out there, I apologize if I sound too harsh. I’m just mostly disappointed at the results.

I express that clearly on this episode:

Final Score:
3’ GOAL (Mbappe) - no one pays attention to no.7 as Neymar draws two defenders, leaving off a weighted pass for Mbappe who calmly finishes it (0-1)
28’ GOAL (Marquinhos) - again, no one pays attention after a free kick clearance as Neymar lofts the ball into an unmarked Marquinhos who easily cleans up a 1-on-1 chance against Neuer. (0-2)
37’ GOAL (Choupo-Moting) - Pavard has plenty of time and room for a high cross to the middle where EMCM runs onto the ball and heads it in cleanly (1-2)
60’ GOAL (Müller) - Kimmich sends in a great free kick pass to meet Müller’s head in the middle. (2-2)
68’ GOAL (Mbappe) - Boateng gets blown by Mbappe on the left flank and fails to make any defensive effort as the young Frenchman nutmegs Boa and gets his brace. (2-3)
