Right-back Benjamin Pavard is a versatile player on the backline for Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick.
The 25-year-old is able to slide between right-back and center-back at will, but don’t expect Pavard to start campaigning for a move to the central defense just yet.
“My ideal position is central defense. But I don’t think about it, currently I play on the right,” said Pavard (as captured by Tz). “We will talk about it in the future.”
Flick understands that Pavard may eventually want to make the the move to center-back, but also knows Pavard will play whatever role best helps the team.
“At the moment, he is playing on the right. I know that he wants to play in the center and that he can,” Flick said. “It’s always good to be able to play several positions; that’s where he has an advantage.”
Pavard has recently rounded into form and should be a key figure in trying to shut down Paris Saint-Germain’s potent offense in Wednesday’s key Champions League battle. Pavard’s future, however, might be cloudy should be want to play center-back with Bayern Munich. David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, and sometimes center-back Javi Martinez are all expected to leave Bavaria this summer, but Dayot Upamecano will be coming in and Niklas Süle and Lucas Hernandez will also be in the mix.
