With FC Barcelona eagerly looking to unload Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho, there were some rumblings that Bayern Munich would be willing to make a move for a player who provided the squad with attacking depth during the treble-winning 2019/2020 campaign.
Alas, Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg burst on to the scene to throw some cold water on to those rumors as he tweeted the news below, which he also detailed on his “Mein Bayern Woche” podcast:
Update #Coutinho - due to many requests: No return to #FCBayern! There is no truth in the rumors. #MeineBayernWoche @SPORT1

Coutinho’s 2020/2021 season was derailed by a knee injury, but FC Barcelona had already seen enough to know that it wanted to go in a different direction. If it can find a willing suitor, FC Barcelona will be looing to make a quick sale of Coutinho this summer.
Everton is among the clubs that are supposedly looking to bring in Coutinho, but the midfielder will likely not be in any rush to make a move. The 28-year-old is focused on rehabbing his knee at this point and has not spoken publicly about what the future might hold.
Coutinho’s current deal with FC Barcelona runs through the 2022/2023 season.
