Jerome Boateng’s contract at Bayern Munich expires this summer. Despite good performances for Bayern Munich in the past two years, the German controversially hasn’t earned a renewal of contract. This was one of the many alleged sticking points between Hansi Flick and Bayern management.

But more bad news for the center-back! On Wednesday morning, Boateng got injured in Bayern training, according to Bild.

Bild state that Boateng injured his foot in a training game and had to leave the pitch 20 minutes before his teammates. It’s unclear as to the severity of Boateng’s injury but it would be heartbreaking if the Bayern legend didn’t get to play in his final games at the club.

Even though the fans are not in attendance at current games, Boateng deserves a send off game to celebrate his illustrious Bayern career. Perhaps David Alaba, him and even Hansi Flick could be given a testimonial when fans are permitted back in stadiums.

As for Boateng’s future, it’s reported that five Italian and English clubs are interested in the World Cup winner. In my opinion, Boateng is still capable of playing at the top level. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him line up for Hansi Flick in the 2022 World Cup.
