Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is said to be on the verge of extending his stay with Bayern Munich by signing a new one year contract. Discussions are quite advanced with just small details remaining. According to Bild, the extension is to be official in May.
Choupo has done his job this year. He provided fair service whenever called upon throughout the year, but most importantly, showed up when the club needed him. The four goals he scored during the absence of Robert Lewandowski, were the deciding factors in him getting a new contract.
Over the course of his campaign at Bayern so far, Choupo has scored nine goals over 30 appearances. While he has mostly come off the bench to make brief appearances, he has started quite a few matches, especially in the second half of the season. In the Bundesliga, he has scored just one goal every 250 minutes, for a tally of three goals in the domestic league. However, he delivered his best in the Champions League with four goals in just seven appearances.

Financially, Choupo-Moting is a great deal for Bayern. The Hamburg-born striker earns relatively low wages with just €2 million, plus bonuses. For the Bavarian giants, it makes much more sense to keep him at these wages rather than make a new signing and spend all sorts of fees. Especially when there are some important incoming transfers to make, this allows the board to focus their energy elsewhere.
Only Kylian Mbappé (6) and Erling Haaland (4) have scored more goals than Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (3) in the knockout phase of #UCL this season.

Choupo is known to have an important role in the dressing room which is something Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić and the rest of the coaching staff have certainly appreciated. The former PSG striker is always in a good mood and meshes well with the rest of the players. Not to mention, he shows great effort and commitment in training.
With the best of Choupo to come at the end of the season, it’ll be interesting to see what he can do at the Allianz Arena next season. With this signing near completion, we are likely to see much more transfer news and rumors in the coming weeks.
