Bayern Munich II fall to new league leaders Hansa Rostock

The young Bavarians could find themselves in the relegation zone by the end of the weekend.

The Danny Schwarz and Martin Demichelis era with Bayern Munich II got off to slow start on Friday. Bayern II lost to new 3.Liga leaders Hansa Rostock 1-0.

Before kickoff, there was a moment of silence to honor Wolfgang Gebhardt who recently passed at the age of 65. Gebhardt worked with the Bayern first team for early 20 years and last worked with the youth teams from 2007-2015.

Unfortunately for Bayern II, they will feel they should’ve gotten a point or even won this game. The Bavarians were the better team on the day, but a goalkeeping error from the returning Ron-Thorben Hoffmann just before halftime (misjudged a ball over the top) allowed Rostock to head into the break on top. In the second half, Sarpreet Singh would hit the crossbar, and Justin Che had his header cleared off the line. Still, Bayern II were unable to find the back of the net.

“It was an open game. A tie would have been fair,” Schwarz said. “We then hit the bar and had a couple of good finishes. We are also a little lacking in luck. It is important to keep believing in it - from game to game.”

Che, on loan from FC Dallas, got his first start for Bayern II at centerback.

With only one win in their last eleven matches, Bayern II have take a nosedive down the table; however, they somehow currently are not in the relegation spots yet. After 32 played matches, Bayern II are sitting on 34 points. Unfortunately for them, the four teams beneath them in the table have only played 31. Bayern II’s lead over KFC Uerdingen is only one point, and the lead over Kaiserslautern is only three points.

Bayern II will take the field twice this week. On Tuesday, they’ll travel to face 10th place FSV Zwickaue. Then, on Monday April 26, the young Bavarians will host 5th place Saarbrücken. We’re coming down to the wire, and Bayern II need to stabilize the ship.
