Flick knows that his team must stay keep its eye on the prize of winning Germany’s top flight.
“We are absolutely focused, as always. There are still 18 points to be awarded. It is not enough to play at half strength or 95 percent,” Flick said. “Our mentality has set us apart in recent years. We want to become German champions as soon as possible, but it can also be open until the end. It is up to us. You have to expect everything, but we’re looking at the five points positively. We want to keep the distance, for that we need three points in Wolfsburg.”
Those three points won’t come easy. Third-place Wolfsburg is primed and ready to knock off Bayern Munich should the Bavarians become distracted.
“Wolfsburg is one of the best teams in the Bundesliga, they have an excellent coach and a great team,” Flick said. “With (Wout) Weghorst you have an outstanding target man. Wolfsburg has developed excellently and will probably play the Champions League next year.”
