The rumored meeting between Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick and future CEO Oliver Kahn took place, but the focus was not Flick’s immediate future.
Instead, Flick told the media that the brief summit was regarding this weekend’s Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg and helping the squad finish out the league season in a strong manner.
“I spoke to him briefly, but it was about other things. We have no pressure there,” Flick said in his weekly press conference (as captured by Tz). “This week is very important for the club. I heard that we could get the fifth star for our championships. That is why it is important to finish this week successfully, that is what the focus is on.”
When pressed again to disclose more details on the meeting, Flick did not budge on his response: “I just answered it. We spoke briefly. It was about this week and the end in Paris.”
With only five points sitting between Bayern Munich and second-place RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg could be a tricky match-up for the banged up Bavarians, who are going to be under-manned once again per Flick.
“I just saw Lewy and he won’t be back in time to face Wolfsburg, we’ll have to wait for an update on Tuesday. Saturday will also be too soon for Leon Goretzka. None of our currently injured players will be fit in time for this weekend,” Flick said. “Next week Serge Gnabry will be back, but we have to build him up again first. We expect to get players back against Mainz. Lucas Hernandez is in pain, it was better yesterday, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s a very, very important week for all of us. The squad is depleted, we have to solve that and we want to win every game. After the English week we can breathe a little bit, now the focus is on these three games.”
Flick did not reference the status of Niklas Süle, which we can assume means the big defender is also out.
