Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane labeled “unfinished” by Mehmet Scholl

At least one former Bayern Munich player thinks that Leroy Sane has a long way to go in meeting his potential.

When former Bayern Munich great Mehmet Scholl watched the Bavarians fail to advance in the Champions League, the 50-year-old was left feeling like winger Leroy Sane could have done a lot more.

“I’m overwhelmed, I don’t know. At 25 years of age, he’s still unfinished,” Scholl told Bild (as captured by the Daily Mirror). “When do I dribble? When do I pass the opponent on which side? The mix isn’t right yet, he still lacks structure. He’s gotten better overall and is getting more and more understanding of Bayern Munich, but he’s not quite as far as long in the game like Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery were.”

While the standard of Robben and Ribery is a tough measure for any player to live up to, it is clear that Scholl — and many Bayern Munich fans — expected Sane to make a bigger impact this season.

Throughout the season Sane has had his ups-and-downs and surely everyone at the club will be looking for a bit more consistency from the former Manchester City man in the 2021/2022 season.
