Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick made some waves late last week when he said that the 2019/2020 squad was better than this season’s version.
While that was not exactly an inflammatory statement given the results, Flick felt the need to re-address the comment during his press conference ahead of his team’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.
“We are ahead in the Bundesliga and can get to the (Champions League) semifinals. The squad is also fun this season,” said Flick (as captured by Tz). “That’s a fact, but not a criticism. I wanted to make it clear that the squad has shown a great mentality.”

Flick indicated that he was not making any comment on the composition of the squad, just looking at the varying achievements of each group.
One major roadblock to his team achieving its goals for this season will be Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. After terrorizing Bayern Munich for a brace in the first leg, Mbappe is a player the Bavarians must account for at all times.
“We played Paris twice under me and we analyzed those games,” Flick said. “We try to steer him to the outside. He brings everything, he’s fast, technically strong and scores goals.”
