Bayern Munich hammered Freiburg 5-1 to stay in first place in the Frauen Bundesliga. For Bayern, it’s their 20th straight win in all competitions, including wins in the club’s first 15 league games. This Bayern team is for real.
Klara Bühl put Bayern up 1-0 in only the 6th minute in her second scoring chance of the match. The Bavarians were on the front foot throughout in this one, and Lea Schüller grabbed her ninth goal of the season in the 38th minute.
Bühl grabbed her second goal after halftime in the 52nd minute, and Linda Dallmann killed off the match in the 64th minute, making it 4-0 to Bayern. While Jana Vojteková pulled one back for Freiburg from the penalty spot in the 84th minute, Viviane Asseyi marked her return from injury with a goal three minutes later.
“After the long journey, we knew it would be a tough game,” Bühl said after facing her old team. “But today we bundled all of our strengths and are now going home with three points.”
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Glas (84. Ilestedt), Wenninger, Laudehr, Simon - Zadrazil - Dallmann, Lohmann (73. Vilhjálmsdóttir) - Bühl, Schüller (67. Asseyi), Beerensteyn (84. Rudelić)
With the win, Bayern stays five points clear of Wolfsburg at the top of the Frauen Bundesliga table. It’s been a remarkable run with 15 wins in 15 games, and Bayern will look to continue the run on Sunday, March 14 against SGS Essen.
Bayern, however, will return to the field before that. The Bavarians will host BIIK Kazygurt in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday, March 10. In the first leg this past week in Kazakhstan, Bayern won 6-1.
