Bayern Munich center-back Jerome Boateng left Saturday’s Der Klassiker with an undisclosed injury and many fans were left lamenting the possibility that the injury gods had struck yet again.
Everyone can let out a sigh of relief, however. Luckily for Boateng and Bayern Munich alike, the veteran defender avoided any major damage as he picked up a strained knee capsule per the club website:
Jerome Boateng suffered a strained left knee capsule in the 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. The diagnosis was made following an examination by the FC Bayern medical department. The center-back will complete an individual rehabilitation programme in the coming days.
Boateng had the unfortunate task of dealing with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland before the Norwegian left the game with his own injury. While Haaland overwhelmed the Bayern Munich backline early, the Bavarians were able pull together and keep Borussia Dortmund off the scoreboard in the second half.
While there was no official timetable given for Boateng’s return, it is encouraging that he will already begin his individual rehab program shortly.
