Per a report from kicker, there is a possibility that Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nübel could be loaned out to Niko Kovac’s AS Monaco in Ligue 1. Nübel has only featured twice thus far for Bayern and finds it increasingly difficult to find minutes behind Manuel Neuer.
When he was signed on a free transfer from Schalke, there was a clause in the agreement that said Nübel would receive at least ten matches this season, which was something Neuer was not fond of.
Now that Bayern has already been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by virtue of a penalty shootout loss to Holstein Kiel in the second round, there is even less opportunity for Nübel to feature. Not to mention, Bayern is now in the knockout stages of the Champions League, so his only real hope is to be able to fill in for Neuer if he were to get injured, which no Bayern fan would be wishing for.
Realizing the difficult situation his client is in at Bayern, Nübel’s agent Stefan Backs said, “This situation is unsatisfactory. You have to think about a loan in the summer when Alex no longer comes to play.”
Although Bayern’s board is well aware of this tricky situation, it’s unlikely that a solution will be feasible with him staying at the club. A loan this summer seems like it would be the most appropriate option for all parties assuming Neuer doesn’t sustain any sort of serious injury. Bayern also has to consider Christian Fruchtl coming back from his loan spell at FC Nürnberg and what they plan to do with Ron-Thorben Hoffmann.

It’s suggested that AS Monaco is one of the club’s that has shown concrete interest in acquiring Nübel on a loan deal this summer. After falling to Strasbourg 1-0 in Ligue 1, Kovac’s side sits in fourth place in the league, which would mean there would likely be more opportunities for Nübel next season given the numerous competitions that AS Monaco could be eligible for in the next campaign.
If the proper conditions could be met between Monaco and Bayern, which seems feasible given the Kovac connection, this could wind up being a positive move for Nübel in taking the next step in his career. While it might be highly beneficial for his development to train alongside Neuer day in and day out, he needs matches of his own to be playing in.
Of course, Chuck and I have made our demands for this deal to be made...
