Bayern Munich’s battle for playing time at wing is heating up

With Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sané all available, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has a tough call to make against Borussia Dortmund.

Per Sport Bild, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has a clear, number one choice at left-wing in Kingsley Coman.

Where things get complicated for Flick, however, is when he has to fill out the right-wing spot on his lineup card. With Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané in a heated competition for game time, the 56-year-old manager has two excellent options to man the right-flank:

One thing is clear: Kingsley Coman (24/3 goals, nine assists) is on the left wing. He is Flick’s number 1 on the wing this season. Against Cologne, the French were extra spared.

The grand piano trio had their first test of strength yesterday. After strength and sprint training, the goal was to shoot three goals. Coman, Sané and Gnabry were each in different teams. There was no clear winner, all three scored well, but when the mood was high, they looked very carefully at how the competitors score.

The wing fight is picking up speed.

While Sport Bild might be trying to make a mountain of out of a mole hill with this, Flick has managed to keep the three wingers relatively happy for most of the season. Sané had some bouts with unhappiness while relegated to the bench behind Coman and Gnabry, but the trio has been injured just enough to avoid any major conflict.

In a fixture like Der Klassiker, however, one of the players is going to feel the sting of being left out.
