Another week, another English pundit taking a swipe at former Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara

Former Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara is among a few ex-Bundesliga players who might be re-thinking their respective decisions to play in England.

Thiago, who is seemingly the victim of hot take nation every week, most recently found himself in the crosshairs of former Manchester United star Paul Scholes.

As captured by Sport Bild, Scholes became the latest English pundit to throw criticism at the 29-year-old.

“He’s not a Jürgen Klopp player,” said Scholes. “The way Liverpool play with three people in midfield doesn’t suit him (Thiago). He doesn’t have the legs for that. A more central role would suit him perfectly. There he can control things and put other players in the limelight. He’s good at that. I just wonder if his style of play and Liverpool’s really go together. He doesn’t really seem like a typical Jürgen Klopp player, does he? If you look at Liverpool’s midfielders and strikers, they’re all (fast).”

Scholes thinks Thiago would actually fit better with Manchester United than with Liverpool.

“I think he would be better suited to a team like Manchester United,” said Scholes. “A team that plays with a two-man midfield, with a strong defense behind it. There he could play in midfield and control the entire game. I don’t see Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool controlling the game. I see them wanting to run over the opponent.”

Sure, there could be some validity to Thiago’s style perhaps not being a perfect fit for Liverpool, but the patience level for the media — and some fans — is surely not as lengthy as it is in Germany. While Leroy Sane has had a roller coaster ride of performances, many fans and observers have called for everyone to remain calm while the former Manchester City star acclimates himself to Bayern Munich’s team and style.

For Thiago, it appears that the soft landing period is already over and the English media won’t stop reminding him of it any time soon.
