Bayern Munich stars Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich played key roles in Germany’s 1-0 victory over Romania. Kimmich was a maestro in the midfield, while Neuer patrolled his position between the sticks superbly, while not being majorly tested.
For Neuer, the Romania match was a hard-fought victory.
“It was a hard piece of work. We should have put the lid on it earlier, then we won’t be in danger,” Neuer said (as captured by the DFB). “We need to score the second and third goals and then have peace of mind. We lacked the coolness, the cleverness and the final will to score the goal. But my opposite number also made a good save.”
Kimmich echoed Neuer’s sentiments and said the game should not have been as close as it was.
“We could have made it easier. We were lucky that Romania didn’t equalize in the 90th minute. That would have been revenge. We simply have to decide it earlier, then we would have had a calmer evening,” Kimmich said (as captured by the DFB). “We controlled the game for the most part. We were relatively ball-secure, but didn’t always have the best solution in the player opening.”
