Bayern Munich crush Duisburg with goals from 6 different scorers

While the Bavarians won big, they likely lost winter signing Ivana Rudelić until the fall with an ACL injury.

Bayern Munich beat Duisburg 6-0 to stay five points clear at the top of the Frauen Bundesliga table. The Bavarians have now won all 25 matches in all competitions to start the season, having scored 103 goals with a +97 goal difference! They are on an incredible run.

Captain Lina Magull opened the scoring in the 18th minute, converting a penalty kick after Marina Hegering was fouled in the area. Ten minutes later, Linda Dallmann doubled the lead for Bayern. The second half was all Bayern, as they just overran Duisburg. Viviane Asseyi, Lea Schüller, Amanda Ilestedt, and Simone Laudehr scored goals to boost the advantage to 6-0 before the final whistle.

“The 1-0 penalty was the can opener. We changed our game due to the space available and hit a lot of long balls,” Magull said. “We were the better team over the 90 minutes and deserved to win at altitude.”

Bayern XI: Benkarth – Glas (71. Ilestedt), Wenninger (63. Boye), Hegering (63. Vilhjálmsdóttir), Simon - Zadrazil, Magull (71. Laudehr) – Asseyi, Dallmann (63.Rudelić), Corley – Schüller

Unfortunately for Bayern, there is terrible news about Ivana Rudelić. She came off with a knee injury late in the match, and Süddeutsche Zeitung states that she told the trainers it was her “cruciate ligament” as they were treating her on the field. This would be the third ACL injury suffered by Bayern since the end of August 2020 (Jovana Damnjanovic and Giulia Gwinn).

The second leg of Bayern’s UWCL Quarterfinal against FC Rosengård will be played on Thursday, April 1. Bayern won the first leg 3-0 in Munich. Then, on Sunday April 4, Bayern will travel to Wolfsburg for their HUGE DFB-Pokal Frauen semifinal.
