Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is becoming a hot commodity on the transfer market as his contract ends in 2022.
Teaming with Joshua Kimmich in Hansi Flick’s double-pivot, Goretzka has gotten a chance to show both his offensive and defensive prowess, along with his passing ability — and other clubs have noticed.
According to Fabrizio Romano, however, the Bavarians are very eager to get a contract extension completed with Goretzka:
Bayern Münich are working to extend Leon Goretka’s contract and they’ve already decided that Douglas Costa will *not* be signed on a permanent deal.

The Brazilian winger will come back at Juventus - there are no talks with Gremio as of today, despite rumours. #transfers
The news regarding Goretzka is not necessarily shocking, but it shows that Bayern Munich is not going to be content to let this situation with Goretzka linger. Losing David Alaba on a free transfer this upcoming summer is not sitting well with the German giants and the club would surely like to avoid having another well-regarded player leave free of charge.
This summer transfer window is the key period for a contract extension for Goretzka. Should Bayern Munich not be able to reach an accord with the 26-year-old by the end of this summer, it could dicey for Goretzka’s future in Bavaria.
All signs point to the two sides reaching a deal, however, and Bayern Munich should feel optimistic about the situation at this stage.
