Per a report from Sky Sports, Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has cut down his list of potential destinations to just two clubs: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
On Monday, we saw yet another report that Alaba had reached an agreement with Real Madrid, but if Sky’s information is correct, the Austrian has set himself up to be the subject of a bidding war between the two La Liga powers.
Is this a masterclass by Pini Zahavi or just more media manipulation? Let’s take a look at what Sky has to say:
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has cut his list of potential destinations this summer down to La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to Sky in Germany.
Alaba has been a target for a number of Europe’s top clubs, but it appears his heart is set on a move to Spain. Paris Saint-Germain recently made Alaba a lucrative offer, which he has turned down.
Premier League interest, most notably from Chelsea, also appears not to have swayed him on a move to La Liga. Sky in Germany believe the race between Barcelona and Real Madrid remains close, despite media outlets in Spain claiming Alaba has already signed a pre-contract with Real.
His agent, Pini Zahavi, is close friends with new Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who won the election earlier this month to gain his second term at the helm.
The most interesting part of the report was really not that Alaba has narrowed his choices down to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, but that he already formally rejected an offer from Paris Saint-Germain and that Chelsea did not do enough to catch Alaba’s attention.
As for the La Liga powers, if the two clubs get into a competition, then Zahavi really will have achieved what he likely wanted all along.
