According to a piece by The Athletic, an unnamed Premier League club made a last-ditch effort to try and convince Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala not to ink a contract extension with the Bavarian club.
While Musiala has not officially signed a new deal with Bayern Munich, the matter is considered a mere formality. That did not stop one English club from making a “discreet inquiry” to Musiala.
Interestingly, The Athletic also reported that Bayern Munich’s primary competition for Musiala did not even come from England, but from...Portugal. Benfica club president Luis Filipe Vieira allegedly tried his best to lure Musiala to Lisbon, but ultimately could not convince the 18-year-old star to switch allegiances.

Once Musiala announced his intention to play for Germany in international competition, most observers concluded that the youngster was set to sign with Bayern Munich. While some last minute details needed to be ironed out, the deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
