After spending most of the season out of sight, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has found himself making a lot of headlines of late.

Nübel, of course, has been making news because he is said to be unhappy with the amount of playing time he has received this season behind starter Manuel Neuer. Nübel’s complaints were not well-received internally, especially by Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick.

“These are things that we discuss internally. They have no business here,” Flick said to Bild. “This is an exchange we’re going to have. Alex’s point of view is his right. Ultimately, he knew what he was getting into when he came to Bayern Munich.”

After weeks of rumors linking Nübel to AS Monaco, Werder Bremen, and Hertha Berlin, it appears that the 24-year-old will finally get another shot on the pitch in the Champions League against Lazio:

Flick will hold a press conference shortly and this report is surely this is going to be a hot topic among the media members attending the event.

Incoming Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has shot down rumors that the club would loan out the former Schalke 04 man. It has also been reported that Nübel could void his contract if he does not get 10 appearances during this season. How serious Nübel is about about doing that remains to be seen.

Whatever the case, Neuer likely could use a bit of a rest in what should be a superfluous contest. With Neuer still performing at a world-class level, these opportunities for Nübel could be few and far between for quite a while.
