Per a report from Bild, it looks like Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick might be leaning toward inserting now-healthy David Alaba back into the starting lineup for the Bavarians, while also using Jerome Boateng over Niklas Süle as the team’s other starter.
Assuming that Alphonso Davies maintains his position at left-back, Lucas Hernandez could be headed back to the bench:
On Sunday, Alaba was able to fully complete the 60-minute unit with the reservists. Even 80-meter-pace runs with Niklas Süle (25) weren’t a problem. Hernández may not like to hear that. The Austrian, who is not defending as confidently as usual this season, has an extremely good relationship with Flick. Although it has been clear for months that Alaba will leave Bayern in the summer, he is set with the coach. Jerome Boateng (32 / contract expires) will also leave in the summer, but will still be preferred over Niklas Süle (25 / contract until 2022) this season.
Hernández needs more patience in his second year in Munich. After all, Bayern are firmly planning next season with him in central defense.
While Flick will surely use all four of his center-backs, it appears that his first-choice pairing for the stretch run could be the veteran duo of Alaba and Boateng.
