In some circles, Bayern Munich signee Dayot Upamecano earned praise for his performance against Liverpool, but to Manchester United star turned BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand, Upamecano struggled mightily in both legs of RB Leipzig’s 4-0 aggregate loss to Jürgen Klopp’s squad.
“He’s gone backwards,’” Ferdinand said on BT Sport (as captured by the Daily Mail) after Liverpool won 2-0 over Leipzig on Wednesday. “Bayern Munich have bought him, but he has gone backwards for me.”

Specifically, Ferdinand was fired up about Upamecano’s effort in allowing Mohamed Salah to cut into his left foot and score in the 70th minute to put Liverpool ahead.
“That goal there was woeful defending, letting him back inside on his stronger foot,” Ferdinand said. “He is going to have to improve once he gets to Bayern I am telling you.”
Ferdinand is no stranger to bashing Upamecano, though. The 42-year-old described Upamecano’s performance in the first leg of the tie as “horrendous.” At the time, Ferdinand also had this to say: “Upamecano has got a big reputation, just signed for Bayern Munich, horrendous he was today. He looked like he had already been in the Bayern dressing room it seemed.”
So...let’s just say Ferdinand is not a fan of Upamecano.
