Bayern Munich star David Alaba keeps finding his name in the headlines of late.

There have been daily transfer rumors linking Alaba to such clubs as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain among others, but now Alaba is in the news for a different reason.

Per a report from Bild, Alaba’s status for Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen is in doubt as the Austrian has reportedly picked up a muscular injury that could cause him to miss the fixture:

According to BILD information, Bayern’s defense star has suffered a muscular injury. His assignment in Bremen on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) is on the brink. How bad the injury is, is still unclear.

The Austrian was already absent from team training on Wednesday and instead practiced in the weight room. When asked by BILD on Wednesday, the club said that Alaba would be missing due to individual load control. But the defender was not on the field with the team on Thursday either.

With Niklas Süle training individually for a portion of this week, Jerome Boateng coming off of an injury, and Alaba’s status in doubt, the Bayern Munich backline could have a substantially different look against Werder Bremen.

There was at least some encouraging news on Süle, as he took part in team training earlier today:

With Süle, Alaba, and Boateng all at least somewhat banged up or recovering from knocks, Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard, and Javi Martinez all could be pressed into action on the backline in one way or another.
