Just a few short weeks ago, Leroy Sane was the clear, third-choice winger behind Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry at Bayern Munich.
While Sane had bouts with inconsistency in the first half of the season, the 25-year-old has settled in and started to string together some solid showings.
Overall, Sane has eight goals and 10 assists in 31 games across all competitions this season, but with three assists in his last four games, the Germany international is finding success on stat sheet and with the eye test.
Per Abendzeitung, Sane has moved even with Coman on the depth chart and ahead of Gnabry:
The decision of coach Flick was no surprise that he bet on the wing duo Coman / Sané in the climax of the game against Dortmund. Gnabry came on for Coman in the 66th minute, while Sané was replaced by Lucas Hernández in stoppage time. In the internal ranking, Sané is currently ahead of Gnabry and on par with Coman. It is an ascending trend.
Back when Hansi Flick replaced Sane during a substitute appearance against Bayer Leverkusen in December, it appeared unlikely that the the former Manchester City and Schalke 04 player would be able to breakthrough this season in Bavaria.
Now, it appears that Sane has done just that.
