It seems as if the print edition of Sport Bild is going to have some bad news if you were hoping Bayern Munich would retain veteran center-back Jerome Boateng.

Twitter account @iMiaSanMia captured some of the details of Sport Bild’s story and things do not look promising for Boateng’s future on Säbener Straße:

From a squad planning perspective, once Bayern Munich signed Dayot Upamecano, it was always going to be a matter of Boateng vs. Niklas Süle. At 25, Süle is younger than Boateng (32) and offers a higher-ceiling and more versatility than Boateng can at this stage of his career.

Süle, though, might not exactly be a sure thing to extend his deal with the Bavarians either, given some of the recent reports indicating he might be open to a move.

Regardless, Boateng’s frustration over a “lack of appreciation” is understandable. The veteran was a huge part of the team’s sextuple-winning effort and has been one of Bayern Munich’s steadiest players over the course of the season.

With a bevy of young center-backs also in the pipeline at Säbener Straße, it just appears that Bayern Munich is in a situation where it has to make a difficult personnel decision.

Whatever the case, Boateng’s efforts are definitely appreciated by the fans, who have seen him play an integral role in the club’s massive success in recent years.
