Numerous reports have broken the news that Bayern Munich has inked Reading FC left-back Omar Richards to a four-year contract.

Richards has reportedly passed his medical exam after three months of negotiations. For Bayern Munich, Richards looks to be a formal back-up at left-back to incumbent starter Alphonso Davies.

With David Alaba leaving the club this summer and Lucas Hernandez set to shift inside to left center-back, Richards will provide depth behind Davies:

While the rumors floated for quite a while regarding Bayern Munich’s interest in Richards, it was unclear whether the Bavarians would be looking to formalize a deal now or in the summer. Clearly, Bayern Munich is seeking to get a lot of business finalized before the club reaches the official start of the summer transfer window.

Per Sky Sports, Bayern Munich might have felt the need to act now given how many clubs were allegedly pursuing Richards:

Bayern jumped ahead of a number of potential Premier League suitors in recent weeks, agreeing a deal which is expected to see the former England U21 international immediately become part of their first team.

It is thought Richards could play as a left-back behind Alphonso Davies, or in front in an advanced left-sided midfield role, having impressed on the left for Reading in the Championship this season.
