Klara Bühl scored a hat trick to lead Bayern Munich to another huge Frauen Bundesliga win. The 7-1 romp over SV Meppen keeps the Bavarians five points clear of Wolfsburg at the top of the table. It’s now clear that the winter break did nothing to slow the Bavarian’s momentum.
Bayern got started in just the 5th minute when Lea Schüller scored the first of her two goals. Bühl would add her first two goals in the 12th and 25th minutes to put Bayern up 3-0 before the half hour mark.
Then, a break for Meppen! Maike Berentzen jumped on a bad pass out of the back and pulled one back for Meppen. However, just three minutes later, Berentzen was on the wrong end of things when she scored an own goal on a pass from Bühl. Then, in the first half stoppage time, Lina Magull scored to give Bayern a 5-1 halftime lead.
Schüller and Bühl each scored within the first six minutes of the second half to put the match officially out of reach for Meppen. Even with the 7-1 advantage, Bayern were unlucky to not score a few more goals in the second half, especially Schüller who missed a hat trick when she failed to score a penalty.
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Simon, Hegering, Wenninger (75. Boye), Glas - Zadrazil, Magull - Corley (75. Pollak), Lohmann (58. Dallmann), Bühl (58. Rudelić) - Schüller (85. Laudehr)
Bayern remain five points ahead of Wolfsburg at the top of the Frauen Bundesliga table. With thirteen wins in thirteen games (and a 47-2 goal difference), the Bavarians are playing on another level this season.
Werder Bremen will visit the Bayern Campus on February 14th in the next Frauen Bundesliga match. Then, the Bavarians will learn their opponents in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16 when the draw takes place on February 16.
